I received this in a trade years ago. "Romeo's Tune" made "Little" Stevie Forbert a one hit wonder complete with the "next Bruce Springsteen/bob Dylan" blah, blah, blah but he was and still is a very talented musician who deserves more commercial attention than he has received.

Most of his records were re-released on CD in 2011 and he is on tour this month, mostly in the Northeast.

This isn't pristine FM but it is enjoyable. This is the last show of the 1979/1980 world tour, and a sort of home comeback for Sting. BBC broadcasted this show a bit less than a week after the gig took place. The band played two shows (hence the short duration of each single gig) and this is the late show.

Recently I got the Silver CD "Gonna Get You" which is said to contain the complete soundboard of the gig in Nijmegen 1981. The mix is the same as the Killing Time bootleg, but the EQ is a lot different. The sound stage changes a bit during the gig, with The Ides of March being very low and almost sounds like it's just being picked up by the audience mics, while at the same time Steve can be heard testing his bass a lot louder. Wrathchild has a bit of a chaotic mix, and sounds a bit different than the rest of the songs. Might be a combination of different sources? The whole show ran about half a step too fast, and credit goes out to tolvis for helping me to correct that. I did some declicking on some tracks in Audition too. Last year the same show was released as "The Axe Falls on Holland", which I assume is the same source, but a confirmation would be very welcome.

Make no mistake that although this recording is far from perfect, with some remastering by someone who knows what they are doing, this could sound like an official release.

However as it stands the sound is 8/10ish or Ex+ mainly because, for some reason the Vocals are low down in the mix.

With a tweak here and there on a graphics equaliser you can get this sounding awesome.

Editing:
- Removal of two gaps: at the end of track 6 and at the beginning of track 10
- Removal of what sounded like a bump of the microphone recording the
audience, at the very end of the last track, before it fades out
- Resulting sector boundary errors corrected with Trader's Little Helper

Original notes:
According to the label this is a first generation copy from the master. At first listen this seems to be a radio broadcast but the one big thing missing is any DJ chatter. It could possibly be a pre-FM recorded by a local radio station in the area. The instrument and vocal quality is top notch and seems to be from the board. There's crowd noise in between tracks but it's definitely controlled - it doesn't have those crowd noise qualities you typically hear on audience tapes. I guess the bottom line is I can't say for sure what the lineage is here - I can only say it smokes and is a must if you like The Cult.

This show is unique in that it contains two songs that would end up on "Electric" performed "Love" style. The psychedelic days were numbered as Rick Rubin would soon enter the picture and point the sound in a new direction. It's interesting to hear a song like "Love Removal Machine" and how it morphed from the original version to the style of the eventually released product. The other interesting thing is how well both versions work.
